Rounds are typically branches, usually with the bark still on, cut into disks about 1/8 in (6mm) to 1/4 inch (12mm) heights then sanded, finished and polished. The wood for these will very. They can also be lathed rounds from various woods, some even glued together, sanded smooth with no bark left.
